FAQs

What is a Celebrant? A celebrant, or civil celebrant, is a trained professional who officiates ceremonies that are non-religious or semi-religious. Celebrants work with clients to create a ceremony that reflects their preference. Celebrants can tailor the religious content of a ceremony to the client's wishes.

What is the difference between a Celebrant and a Registrar? The main difference between a celebrant and a registrar is that a celebrant creates personalised ceremonies, while a registrar performs legal marriages with a standard script. Celebrants create truly unique and meaningful ceremonies, they also don’t need a license, so you can have your dream wedding, wherever you want!

Can I use a Celebrant if I’m religious? If you’d like your ceremony in a church, that’s not my area. For solely religious ceremonies in a place of worship, you’ll need your religion’s minister such as a vicar or a rabbi. For ceremonies with prayers, religious quotes or a simple nod to a family religion or belief, that’s more than possible! We can incorporate whatever you’d like into your ceremony, you’re in charge.

What is a Civil Funeral? A Civil Funeral is a ceremony that is based upon the wishes, beliefs and values of you, your family and your loved one. It's a unique and personal Celebration of Life - allowing family and friends to acknowledge a death, pay tribute to a life lived, and find comfort for the time to come.

Can I have a civil funeral in a place of worship? Civil Celebrants are non religious. Whilst I can offer some religious aspects in a ceremony such as prayers or hymns, the ceremony tends to take place at a crematorium or non-religious burial site. However, any other location can be chosen; for example, at home, an outdoor place, or any venue that has been meaningful to the person who has died.

Can you help me write my eulogy/vows? Of course! I'm on hand to give you ideas, help you write, or completely write it for you! You have full input on what I write and you can make as many changes as you like before the day.

Is a Celebrant Wedding a legal ceremony? Unfortunately not, but in 2025 we’re hoping the laws around celebrants being able to legalise marriage will change! At the moment, couples are required to legally register their marriage at a registry office before the wedding. It’s not the same as having the wedding at a registry office, it’s simply a short document signing you can do in your jeans and a T shirt! Once the legal bits are done we can have the ceremony wherever you like, with the vows written your way, personalised rituals added as well as make it as long or as short as you’d like!

What is the difference between a funeral director and a celebrant? Generally speaking, the funeral celebrant conducts the funeral ceremony, and the funeral director organises the logistics of the funeral; the coffin, the venue, the timings, the hearse etc. Both a funeral director and a funeral celebrant can help with music, poems and readings.

I can't afford your fees? Please still get in touch, money shouldn't be a road block to having a day you or your loved ones deserve. We can work together to figure out a price that suits us both.
